Sh*t That's Clever: Disney

Disney's $1 Billion Bet on a Magical Wristband

Trust the good folks at Disney to come up with a clever and magical way to move around and purchase items at their parks.

And if you have kids (which you probably do if you're at Disney World) you will understand that the struggle is most definitely real when it comes to relentlessly rummaging through bags, backpacks or baby bags for wallets, keys and suchlike.

The Disney MagicBand is a tech-studded wristband available to every visitor to the Magic Kingdom which features a long-range radio that can transmit more than 40 feet in every direction.

Punters can choose from a range of Disney inspired, colourful wristbands enabling you access to the parks, to unlock your Disney Resort hotel room and buy food and merchandise. Plus, your MagicBand gives you Fast Pass access to all the experiences you’ve pre selected online with your 'My Disney Experience', so you can simply concentrate on enjoying the fun with the people you love.

MagicBands add a touch of magic to your vacation by unlocking special surprises, personalised just for you and each of these magical moments are then transformed into a one-of-a-kind digital keepsake by Disney PhotoPass service. All you have to do is go to your PhotoPass account to see all the memories they have captured and created for you.

If that wasn't enough, you can even reserve a meal at the Beauty and the Beast inspired restaurant called Be Our Guest, using the Disney World app to order your food in advance.

If you’re wearing your Disney MagicBand and you’ve made a reservation, a host will greet you at the drawbridge and already know your name—Welcome Mr. Du'Plessis! She’ll be followed by another smiling person—Sit anywhere you like! Neither will mention that, by some mysterious power, your food will find you, via your wrist.

And it all works seamlessly, like magic.
